What is a "School Health Program"? |

|
The term "program" is defined differently in different contexts and jurisdictions. Throughout this website, and in other materials, the JCSH uses "school health program" to describe on-going activities that: - Have no defined ending point. Activities within these programs may vary, sometimes focusing on a specific sub-population or a set of specific health issues. But the overall direction reflects a comprehensive long-term plan with procedures in place to ensure sustainability;
- Are guided by policies that address school health promotion as a topic unto itself, and not as part of another program (e.g., a nutrition program or community health program);
- Include a variety of different intervention. Typically, these include policy interventions as well as instruction, health services and attention to the school's social and physical environment.
